how we spent our Wednesday evening

One of these was spotted yesterday evening a few miles from our apartment:

At the time, we were at our local library about a mile away. Just as we pulled into the parking lot, it became very dark and windy, and was just beginning to rain. Then, shortly after we got into the library, they announced that a tornado warning was in effect, and everyone had to go into a back room. Mostly to be away from the windows and near the strongest part of the building.

So, we spent about half an hour huddled in a back room with the other library patrons, reading the books we had hastily grabbed off the shelf on our way in. Luckily, r1 had grabbed a Richard Scarry book for w1, which he happily read the entire time.

R1 noted that if we had been in our apartment, we never would have known about the warning because we don't have a TV or radio. Hmmm...
